A mother who lost her baby when medical staff did not recognise that she had gone into labour is suing the NHS trust and making a compensation claim.
The mother was taken into hospital when her waters broke and she was due to have a caesarean three days later.
There were signs that she had gone into labour, but the victim claims that she was left in the triage room for more than three hours without proper monitoring.
The mother claims that the staff were very slow to take action; even when it became clear that the baby was in distress.
The baby boy was born without a heartbeat and died just two days later. It was recorded that she died because of a lack of oxygen to his brain and the inquest recorded that it was a ‘death by misadventure contributed to by neglect.’
The woman has begun legal proceedings for medical negligence and the NHS Trust has apologised to the family. They have stated that since the loss of the baby boy, staff involved have been given further training. The principal midwife involved has also undergone a professional review.
