Shopping centre pays out injury compensation to slip victim

A shopping centre in Leicestershire has agreed to pay a significant amount in personal injury compensation to a woman who slipped and fell on a wet floor.

Gweneth Bowler slipped on the wet floor of a bridge link to the entrance to the Highcross Shopping Centre, fracturing her shoulder and hop as he fell. The 63-year-old was taken to hospital and required treatment for her injuries over a considerable period of time.

Describing what happened and her decision to launch a personal injury claim against the shopping centre, Mrs Bowler said:

“As I was going through the doors to the bridge, all of a sudden my leg went from under me.

“I’m still recovering. I was upset about it at the time and still am.

“I just didn’t want it to happen to anybody else.”

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) also investigated the case, and found that around five similar slips and trips on the wet bridge had been reported within the period of Mrs Bowler’s accidents. HSE officers recommended safety measures to prevent further injury, and these have all been implemented by the shopping centre’s owners.
