What to do after an accident

If you have been involved in an accident, you will probably not be thinking very straight. You may be upset and shocked, but there are certain things you will need to do to make sure that you don’t face any problems when you try to make a compensation claim later on.

Of course, if you need to seek immediate medical attention, then this should always be the first priority. But if you can, you should begin to collect evidence immediately after the accident has happened.

Write down your memories of the event while it is fresh in your mind. If it helps, you could draw some illustrations to help show how and why the accident happened. Also, if you have a camera with you, try to take pictures of the vehicles involved as well as any damage done.

One of the most important things to remember is that you need to get the details of the other drivers. You need their name, address, telephone number, licence plate and insurance company details. While you are collecting details, you may also want to collect the details of any witnesses who may be able to back up your version of events.

Being involved in a car accident is a horrible experience, but if you manage to get some details down you can make the compensation claim process a lot easier for yourself.
