A woman, who was left disabled after mistakes were made while she was being born, has won her compensation claim and received £4 million.
The woman is now 18. She took her case to court claiming that there was a lack of management during her delivery and that this has left her with serious disabilities.
In order to deal with her injuries, the woman has to use a wheelchair. As well as this, she has trouble communicating through speech and she has learning difficulties too.
Her severe injuries have meant that she needs care all of the time and this has been carried out by her mother.
The injury compensation that was awarded was made up of £1.6 million in a lump sum as well as annual payments. These payments will begin at £140,000 a year and will increase over the years to reach £175,000.
This compensation is designed to cover the costs of the extensive care that the woman needs.
The NHS Trust responsible has been praised for its sensitivity in dealing with the case and for dealing with it quickly.
